A cat wall sounds like a simple weekend project. However, anyone planning it **completely from scratch** – meaning buying wood, cutting it, sanding it, drilling it – will quickly encounter problems that cost time, money, and nerves. And in the worst case: your wall, your wallet – or your cat – will suffer damage.

The wrong assembly technique is the most common mistake. **Dowel plugs that are too short, incorrect spacing, wrong wall anchoring** — and the element isn't seated correctly or tears out of the wall when the cat jumps. Important: Staining, varnishing or customisation is completely optional. All Sweetypaws elements made of light pine wood fit untreated into any interior directly after assembly - whether modern, Scandinavian or classic. Many of our customers assemble them directly without any treatment and are delighted with the result.

Which wall is available? How high is the ceiling? Is there a corner, a wide wall, or an area behind the sofa? Measure the available space and photograph it. This is your canvas.

Draft outline

Briefly sketch out where each element should hang. Maximum jumping distance **40 cm**. Entry height approx. **40–60 cm** from the ground. Work from bottom to top.

Place the drilling template, mark the holes, drill (**6 mm**), insert dowels and screw the element tight. All Sweetypaws elements hold up to **6 kg** with correct wall mounting.

Some cats explore immediately, others need 1-2 days. A treat on the first element speeds things up. From experience, after a week the wall is their new favorite place.

Wall shelves are the foundation of any cat wall. They offer resting surfaces at various heights, serve as lookout posts, and as intermediate jumping platforms. Sturdy wooden platforms, easy to assemble.

Junge Katzen sind voller Energie und entdecken alles. Für sie gilt: Katzenwand selber bauen bedeutet, niedrig anfangen. Halte die Elemente nah am Boden, nutze lieber die Länge der Wand als die Höhe. Senior cats love heights — but without a challenge. Wide, stable steps instead of narrow jumps. Large, flat lounging areas. A wall cat house is often the most important place on the entire cat wall for older cats. Look for wide steps (at least 20 cm deep) and small distances between elements (max. 25 cm).

Recommendation: wide stairs, open platforms, cat house, low to medium height

For the turbo cat you need a real parkour system: multiple routes, suspension bridges, ropes to climb, scratching elements in the middle of the path. The more varied, the better. Boring cat walls will not be used. Active cats need challenges — instability (suspension bridges), scratching surfaces and changing heights.

Recommendation: Suspension bridges, ropes, lots of elevation changes, multiple routes

Everything you need to know - before you start.

With Sweetypaws elements you only need a drill and a cordless screwdriver. All elements come pre-drilled, pre-sanded and with dowels, screws and a drilling template. No sawing, no sanding, no milling.

Unsere Elemente sind günstiger als Rohmaterial vom Baumarkt — wenn du Holz, Schleifpapier, Schrauben, Dübel und die Arbeitszeit einrechnest. Und das Ergebnis ist sicherer, gleichmäßiger und direkt einsatzbereit.

Ja, alle massiven Kiefernelemente nehmen Beize, Lack und Farbe problemlos an. Wir empfehlen ungiftige, katzenfreundliche Produkte. Viele Kunden montieren die Elemente aber auch unbehandelt — das helle Naturholz passt in jedes Interieur.

For a complete climbing route, we recommend at least 3–5 elements: a climb (stairs or steps), 2–3 lounging areas at different heights, and ideally a hammock. A starter set provides you with exactly that as a basis.

Jedes Element kommt mit einer Bohrschablone, passenden Dübeln und Schrauben. Bohre mit 6 mm, setze Dübel ein, schraube das Element fest. Kurzer Belastungstest: mit der Hand ruckeln. Alle Elemente halten bis 8 kg.

The maximum jump distance between two elements is 40 cm. For older cats or kittens: maximum 25–30 cm. The entry height of the first element should be 40–60 cm from the ground.
