Three little paws changed everything

We're Jorn and Hannah — two hopelessly cat-obsessed humans who turned heartbreak into something beautiful. What started with one very special three-legged cat named Iva became a mission to give every cat the home — and the adventure — they truly deserve.

How it started

Meet our little tripod

It started with Iva — our fierce, fearless, three-legged cat who we lovingly called our little tripod. Iva was already living with family when she was hit by a car — a reminder of the very real danger that outdoor cats face every single day. Our family looked after her with incredible care through her operation and recovery. But once she came out the other side, something unexpected happened: the other animals in the home started bullying her. The one who needed the most gentleness was getting the least of it. So she needed a new home. A safe one. And she found it with us.

Iva was our whole world. But she was a true homebody — a little anxious after everything she'd been through, not one for the outdoors. So when we noticed how quiet she seemed during the days, we did what any devoted cat parents would do: we went back to the shelter.

Enter: the escape artist

Nils tried to escape the shelter. Three times.

We should have seen it coming. When we went to pick up Nils, he tried to bolt three times before we even got him into the carrier. We laughed it off. He was just enthusiastic, we told ourselves.

He and Iva were adorable together — genuinely sweet. But Nils was a full-blown adventurer while Iva preferred the sofa. Eventually we built a little cat flap so Nils could roam outside while Iva could retreat inside whenever she felt like it. For a while, it worked perfectly.

Then we lost her.

One day, we found Iva by the water's edge. Our little three-legged angel was gone. It turned out that outdoor cats in our village had been deliberately targeted. We won't share the details — but it broke us completely. In that moment, we made a decision: Nils would stay inside. Always. And we would find a way to make inside feel like the whole world to him.

The rescue that healed us

Loki walked into our broken hearts

To ease the grief — and because we couldn't stand the thought of Nils being alone — we rescued Loki from the shelter. He's a perfect split between Iva and Nils: a total daredevil when no one's watching, and a complete scaredy-cat the moment anyone walks in.

With two adventurers suddenly stuck indoors at night, we quickly realised we couldn't just take away their world. Cats are hunters. Climbers. Explorers. They don't stop needing adventure just because the front door is closed.

And that's when the search began — for something far better than a sad, flimsy scratching post that collapses after three weeks.

Our logo isn't just a design choice. The three paw prints carry a double meaning: they're a tribute to Iva's three legs — our little tripod who started it all — and they represent the three paws of Iva, Nils and Loki combined. Three cats, three personalities, one family.

We use reclaimed pinewood wherever possible. Not because we have to — but because we think it's the right thing to do. And because it's genuinely a better material. Every Sweetypaws element is crafted from reclaimed pinewood — beautiful, characterful timber that's already lived a full life before becoming part of yours.

Reclaimed wood gives existing timber a second life — reducing demand for fresh logging and keeping carbon locked in the wood, not released into the atmosphere.

Reclaimed wood has already dried and settled over decades. The result is a more stable, denser material — less prone to warping, and perfect for cat walls that need to hold real weight reliably.

I'd already thrown away more scratching posts than I care to admit. Every one of them ugly, every one of them broken within weeks. Building our first cat wall was different — it brought back that same feeling as when we cobbled together our first little cat flap together. Creating something with your hands, for the ones you love. And this time, it actually looked like we meant it to be on our wall.

When we were figuring out how to give Nils and Loki a real indoor world, it suddenly hit me — we were ignoring the biggest canvas we had: the walls. Cats love height. Iva would have absolutely adored curling up in one of our little cat houses, high up and safe, watching the world from above. That thought still drives everything we design.
